Due to this harmonized environment of people and nature, the residents can not only enjoy the beautiful scenery in every season, but also keep their valuable culture and industries by passing on from generation to generation and cultivated the joy of life.

“Nichiren Souhon Sankuonji” is a shrine located in the southern part of Minobu , where the Japanese tradition can still be seen. One of the Fuji five lakes, “Motosuko” is in the eastern side of town where “Shiomobe onsen” hot spring bath with 1300 years of history is located. In the north, famous traditional ”Nishijima Washi” paper has been crafted in the past 450 years.

Nishijima’s “Washi Suki”

In Nishijima, there are several factories still remained and craftsmen are making traditional paper especially for Japanese calligraphy. In 1571, when a samurai warrior named Seibei Mochizuki came back to his hometown, Nishijima, he brought the technique of Washi making and started the craft here. The process he acquired was using “Mitsumata” plant, which makes paper shiny. When he offered the paper to the lord of the country “Shingen Takeda”, the lord was fascinated by Seibei’s skill and gave him the title of official servant for paper making. This occurrence made Nishijima prosperous for the Japanese paper making culture.

Other traditional industries still remain in surrounding Nishijima area. In Hayakawa town, “Suzuri”, ink plates used for Japanese calligraphy are produced. Ichikawa Misato is a production town of “Shoji” paper used for Japanese sliding door and Rokugo is a production area of signature stamps
