16th Nishijima Washi Festival [Nishijima Washi Experience Expo] Coming Up!

Enjoy the fall in Nishijima at our annual event, the 16th Nishijima Washi Festival [Nishijima Washi Experience Expo]!

This year, we’ll be welcoming everyone with a packed lineup including unique Nishijima washi experiences, performances, and local gourmet food and specialty product sales.

Bring the whole family and enjoy a refreshing autumn day!

■ 11:00 AM – Calligraphy Performance by High School Students

Watch an exciting calligraphy performance by high school students at the event plaza.

This year, we’re thrilled to have two schools participating: Kofu Nishi High School and Kofu Higashi High School!

Don’t miss the dramatic performance as they create works on large washi paper with lively brush movements.

■ 12:00 PM – Washi Balloon Making

“Let’s put our wishes into a washi balloon over 1 meter in diameter and send it into the sky!”

Everyone will work together to create a big washi balloon using Nishijima washi.

This year, there’s also a 4-meter-long “Edamame Balloon”!

Look forward to seeing these large washi balloons soar into the sky.

■ 1:30 PM – 19th Nishijima Washi Picture Letter Exhibition Award Ceremony

Venue: Fureai Hall

We’ll hold the award ceremony for the 19th Nishijima Washi Picture Letter Exhibition, showcasing picture letters made with Nishijima washi from all over Japan.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, October 25.

Don’t miss these wonderful works that highlight the unique charm of Nishijima washi.

■ Kitchen Cars and Nishijima Marche!

There will also be food trucks and a special sale at the Nishijima Marche.

Eat, shop, and experience—fully enjoy autumn in Nishijima!

■ “Phantom Akebono Soybeans” Regional Fair

Try the specialty “Akebono Soybeans” from Minobu Town, available only this time of year.

These seasonal “phantom Akebono soybeans” are a must-try.
