In Minobu Town, Yamanashi Prefecture—a place where the art of washi paper lives on—a new interactive roadside station is opening its doors.
Introducing “Nishijima Washi-no-Sato Kamisuki Park”, officially opening on Friday, April 18, 2025!
At the Kamisuki-kan, visitors can enjoy hands-on washi paper-making guided by skilled artisans. Popular programs include calligraphy paper (jisuki), handmade fans, and lantern crafting. You can also observe traditional craftsmanship through a glass-viewing area and explore exhibits on the history of washi.
The on-site restaurant Ajisai-an serves local specialties such as miso ramen made with Akebono soybeans, yuba rice bowls, and more.
In the Fureai-kan, visitors can enjoy seasonal events and workshops, while families with children will love the wooden playground and indoor kids’ space.
Other highlights include a local produce market, a shop selling washi goods and stationery, and an RV park for overnight stays—making it the perfect destination for a relaxing day out.
